Abstract: |
<summary>A watching brief was undertaken during the construction of a haulage road, in an area Scheduled for its archaeological sensitivity. Six post holes and a single pit were discovered. The post holes were not opposed at right angles and varied in depth; these two factors are not consistent with the interpretation of the post holes as a structure. It is possible that they represent two parallel fence lines. A Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age palisaded settlement was excavated c40m south-west of the site, so the post holes and pit may relate to that in some way. However, another possibility is that the features are of Anglian date, as a {italon}grubenhaus{italoff} of that period was found c600m to the south. {italon}AIP{italoff} |
