Abstract: |
The watching brief identified the remains of buildings and surfaces representing the former buildings and roads that existed in the area prior to their demolition in the 1960's. Deposits were also identified that may represent attempts to reclaim this area during the latter half of the 17th century when additional land was required for development in this area of Chester. An onion bottle dated to around 1700 was recovered from these deposits. However, these early attempts at reclamation may have only been partially successful as layers of silts, deposited during flooding, were identified above the possible reclamation layers. [Au(abr)] |
