Abstract: |
Pits and burials were found on the site proposed for development as a swimming pool. They were related to the Benedictine Nunnery at Wherwell and the Abbey church immediately north of the investigation area. It was evident that the cemetery had been used for some time. Rubble walls, all on the same orientation as the walls of the church, were excavated.Three of the walls post-dated the burials and may reflect a change in the function of the area. A chalk block surface discovered may have been a platform for some form of structure but its relationship to the other observed features and deposits was unclear. [Au(abr)] |
