Abstract: |
The evaluation consisted of three trial trenches excavated in advance of a proposal to build three detached dwellings on the site. The site was located along the northern side of the A120 Stane Street, which formed part of the course of the old Roman Road from Braughing to Colchester. The trial trenches revealed few archaeological features. Brick and pebble surfaces of probable 19th/20th century date were recorded in the south-eastern corner of the site. They were likely to have been used as the access route to a barn which previously occupied the north-east corner of the site. [Au(adp)] |
