Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment identified that both Areas A and B contained what appeared to be surviving elements of the medieval landscape, in the form of field boundaries and woodland management features. Area A contained remains of water meadow features, possibly medieval. There was a low potential for the sites to contain remains dating from the Neolithic to the Roman periods, but the possibility of such remains being present could not be totally ruled. The geology and topography of the two areas suggested that the small plateau in the south west of Area B would have been the most likely site for any activity if it existed. There was a slightly higher potential for evidence for Mesolithic activity being present within Areas A and B, perhaps relating to the seasonal use of the London Clay areas. Any remains which may have been present dating to these periods had the potential to be well preserved due to the historic land-use of many of the fields. [Au(adp)] |
