Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was conducted during the construction of a new communications infrastructure system, to the north of the northern runway, Heathrow airport. The project extended over a distance of approx. 3.7km. Twelve archaeological features were observed: pits and ditches of uncertain date. The brickearth survived discontinuously in the western part of the site, but was truncated in the eastern part, except for a few isolated areas, and reappeared only at the eastern end. It thus appeared that archaeological features were most likely to have survived in those parts of the airfield, although three ditches had survived in the central area. [AIP] |
