Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during groundworks for a relief drain, at a site which lay within the deserted medieval village of Newtown, a Scheduled Ancient Monument. A number of low earthwork features had previously been observed at the site. These were not seen during the watching brief, perhaps because of tall vegetation which obscured the ground surface, or because of possible recent dumping of spoil. During the watching brief, an early modern land drain and a buried pond/marsh deposit were observed. A pond had existed on the site within living memory. [Au(adp)] |
