Abstract: |
Fieldwork was carried out to evaluate the archaeological resource at the site of Old Sun Wharf. A complex of brick built walls, floors, drains and other features divided up into two principal phases was dated by the bricks to the 16th and 18th centuries. The earlier phase was associated with reclamation from the river, accomplished by a timber revetment constructed soon after 1584. Dumps of crushed bricks made up the ground level prior to the construction of the brick buildings, which would have fronted onto Narrow Street. [Au(abr)] |
