Abstract: |
The watching brief was undertaken on the site of residential development. Pottery obtained from topsoil stripping of the northern half of the site was of 19th century date. Other unstratified pottery recovered was 16th to 18th centuries in date. One struck and retouched prehistoric flint flake also came from the topsoil. Two linear features, probably former hedge boundary ditches, were identified in the cutting for the roadway into the site from Stony Lane. Both contained pottery of 17th or 18th century date. A probable pit was identified in the footings of House 5. The feature was filled with orange-brown silty clay containing much charcoal, but no finds were obtained to date it. [Au(adp)] |
