Abstract: |
Rescue excavations were undertaken on the promontory to record archaeological features exposed through coastal erosion. The excavation uncovered a well-preserved limekiln of possible medieval date, close to the remains of St Ebbas Chapel. The site was backfilled with sand on completion of the excavation, but was later fully re-excavated in order to take samples for archaeomagnetic analysis and dating. This assigned a late medieval date to the kiln. Archaeomagnetic dating was carried out by Geoquest. [Au(abr)] |
