Abstract: |
The assessment was undertaken prior to the proposed digging of a shaft in the roadway of Ludgate Hill, immediately west of the statue of Queen Anne at the west end of St Paul's Cathedral, and at the east end of Ludgate Hill. This was part of a proposed refurbishment of the external drainage of St Paul's Cathedral. The report concluded that the proposed shaft had archaeological consequences. The shaft would be excavated through 4.7 metres and perhaps more of archaeological strata, from the Roman period to the present. This assessment recommended that an archaeological presence would be necessary during the building works. [Au(adp)] |
