Abstract: |
The evaluation was requested by the Archaeological Advisor to the Southwell Diocesan Advisory Committee as part of a proposal to extend to the south-west of the Church of St Swithun's. Two trenches, measuring approximately 1m by 2m were hand excavated to the south-west of the church. The lower legs and feet of a complete inhumation were revealed in trench 2. No finds of structural or artefactual significance were made. However, the extent of the excavation was reduced by the presence of modern drainage pipes and trenches associated with church drainage.
