Abstract:
<summary>Excavation in advance of redevelopment located the heavily truncated remains of the precinct walls and moat of the Rosary, a house built by King Edward II in 1325. Medieval river management remains comprised revetments and a massive river wall, which also formed the northern wall of a long, narrow warehouse building. Walls, floors, hearths, lined pits and drains, and sunken wooden barrels belonging to post-medieval warehouses possibly used as a brewery - which would have re-used the superstructure of the earlier warehouse - were revealed. Post-medieval structures, revetments and the remains of a tidal mill lay to the north-east of these warehouses. Kiln furniture and a sequence of burnt layers, found on the east side of Vine Lane, represented the remains of a delftware kiln. Domestic artefactual evidence uncovered by the excavations was particularly rich. {italon}AIP{italoff} {italon}SMR Primary Record Numbers:{italoff} ABO92 (Museum of London Site Code)
