Abstract: |
As part of the regeneration of Salford city centre, a number of redevelopment schemes were being considered. An desk-based assessment was undertaken at land at Greengate, Salford. The study area was located directly over an area of known historical significance, the core of the medieval area known as Chapel Street, Greengate and Gravel Lane. Little was known of the surviving potential of the site and a proposed development might allow a unique opportunity to gather more information about this area. The archaeological potential for prehistoric, Roman or Saxon material was very low, the potential for medieval material was high and the potential for post-medieval remains was very high. [Au(adp)] |
