Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken on behalf of the town council following an archaeological evaluation on the site of proposed development. The earliest activity on the site was represented by an unstratified find of 13th/14th century date. An external foundation wall was revealed and possibly formed part of the Bishop's Palace up to c1350. Several structural and garden features were recorded dating from the use of the site as the Vicarage gardens from 1800 until the 1960s. These included a well and a length of garden wall. Finds included post-medieval residual pottery and domestic material and building material. [Au(abr)] |
