Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during the excavation of five observation pits and six bore holes. The site was close to the Railway viaducts between the Battersea Railway stations and Victoria Station. The excavations showed 19th century and earlier residual finds lying on the original ground surface. Below this deposit lay river terrace gravels and sands excapt at the northern end of the iste, where grey/blue alluvial silts and clays were found overlying river terrace deposits. No peat deposits were located. One test pit uncovered structures which may have been associated with the railway viaduct, now demolished, which bisected the site in two. [Au(adp)] |
