Abstract: |
Archaeological excavation of the remnants of The Belvedere. This structure, built in the 1740s and formerly part of the grounds of Weald Hall, constructed on top of a man made mound, was designed to take advantage of extensive views. The above ground remains were destroyed in 1954. The structure was revealed to be a ten sided building of alternating recesses and windows, with the mound enclosing the ground floor of the building and the main access through an alcove in a brick built crescent. Another door, suggested by a doorstep, might have led into the first floor. [Au(adp)] |
