Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment was undertaken to evaluate the potential effects of the proposed new MIETS Unit upon archaeological resources. It identified a high potential for archaeological remains on the site, in the form of Late Bronze Age activity associated with a hoard of metal work from close to the site and a number of find spots, including a second hoard, in the surrounding area. There was only a low potential for other prehistoric, Roman and later remains. There appeared to have been minimal post-medieval and modern disturbance on the site. It was possible that some form of landscaping or land raising had taken place on the site, but if so, its nature and extent were unclear at present. The proposed building was likely to have removed all potential archaeological deposits within its footprint, with the possible exception of the deepest features, where these lay outside of the foundations.
