Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment was undertaken at Neptune Quay to clarify the archaeological potential of the study area which is proposed for housing development. It was considered that there was moderate potential for remains of Anglo-Saxon-early medieval date, but very high potential for features and finds of the medieval and post-medieval periods. Extensive buildings and associated remains were likely to be present, along with several phases of waterfront and possibly boats. Many finds and high quality archaeoenvironmental remains were also expected. The survival of any archaeological deposits was likely to have been compromised only by localised post-depositional impacts. The implementation of archaeological mitigation measures was recommended.
