Abstract: |
An archaeological desk based assessment was undertaken following the submission of an application for planning permission for the construction of a Motorway Service Area at junction 9 of the M1. No conclusive sites were recorded within the proposed development area, however its location within an area deemed a 'Site of Archaeological Significance' and proximity to an 'Area Subject to Local Preservation' would have affected the archaeological input required before planning permission could be granted. Several of the features shown on aerial photographs of the ASLP1 may have continued into the proposed development area and the report concluded that these may need to be investigated by field walking, geophysics and evaluation trenches.
