Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment was undertaken of the site prior to the proposed demolition of the existing building and the construction of a new shop and gymnasium. All of the evidence suggested that the possibility of prehistoric, Roman and Saxon settlement in the area of the site was low. The cartographic evidence also confirmed that the site was part of Hampton open fields, then a village green, known as Wick Green, before being enclosed in 1826. It was fully developed by 1863. It was unlikely therefore that there would have been any medieval or post-medieval occupation in the area of the site. [Au(adp)] |
