Abstract: |
Two trial trenches were excavated across a scooped earthwork in a field adjacent to Barnard Castle School. The trenches were excavated by staff and students of the school under the supervision of an experienced archaeologist. As a result of the excavations it was considered that the earthwork was associated with quarrying activity of a post-medieval date. A relict field boundary running alongside the earthwork was examined and was found to be later than the quarry. [AIP] |
