Abstract: |
An evaluation of the standing walls of New Hall at Old Hall Farm, Pontefract was undertaken. The majority of the building material used to construct new Hall came from the Cluniac priory of Saint John, located to the south. The priory, founded in the 12th century, was dismantled after it was sold to Lord Talbot in 1553. A large number of architectural fragments from New Hall and the Priory remained, littered around the site, with some built into existing walls. Walls belonging to both the 16th century New Hall, its gardens and earlier farm complex; and the 19th century farm on the site were recorded. [Au(adp)] |
