Abstract: |
A geomagnetic survey was carried out over 3 sample blocks, totalling 3ha, on farm land 1km east of Wellington in Somerset, where a proposal had been submitted for conversion to a livestock market with associated facilities. The survey contributed to an archaeological site assessment being carried out by Avon Archaeological Unit. A fluxgate gradiometer logging at 1.0x0.5m gridded resolution was used. The results suggested that soils in the study area were characterised by a weak and uniform magnetic susceptibility, with a very low density of ferrous litter. No geophysical anomalies indicative of archaeological or geotechnical targets were encountered in any of the sample areas investigated. [Au(adp)] |
