Abstract: |
An archaeological excavation was carried out on the site. Phase 1 dated to the late 9th to 11th century and consisted of a large ditched enclosure with an internal ditch. Phase 2 dated to the late 11th to 12th century and consisted of several ditches. Phase 3 dated to the 13th to 14th century and consisted of a curving rectilinear enclosure. Phase 4 dated to between the 15th to 16th century and consisted of small scale chalk quarrying. Phase 5 dated from the 16th to 18th century and comprised of rubbish pits, a boundary ditch and a well backfilled with rubble and articulated horse remains. Phase 6 dated to the 18th to 19th century and consisted of a small chalk floored structure. [Au(abr)] |
