Abstract: |
An excavation was carried out prior to the commencement of underpinning work at the west wall of a 17th century wing at medieval Tamworth Castle. The upstanding historic fabric of a well-head structure was also recorded. During the excavation, no evidence of a cut for the well or of a construction trench for the south wing was observed. No dating evidence for the well was encountered. Medieval pottery and fragments of animal bone, oyster shell, tile and brick were recovered. [AIP] |
