Abstract: |
Archaeological investigations were undertaken prior to and following the demolition of a farmhouse and farm buildings. Historical research, site survey and archaeological excavations identified that Sutton Grange Farm developed from a stone farmhouse of the 16th-17th century, perhaps built as an early enclosure of waste land. By 1801 additions had been made to the farmhouse and a large stone barn constructed. The farmhouse and buildings were further developed in the 19th century but by 1992 substantial rationalisation of the structure had already taken place. [Au(adp)] |
