Abstract: |
Three trial trenches were excavated within the footprint of the proposed development of residential properties. None of the trenches contained significant archaeological remains, although soil profiles were relatively intact below modern surfacing. Evidence of previous activity was mainly limited to the later 19th century and subsequent development, related to the construction and use of the present London House. There were occassional finds of clay pipe, pottery and ceramic building material. There was no evidence for the Roman Road which was thought to have followed the line of the present-day London Road, or for any associated features such as ditches. [Au(adp)] |
