Abstract: |
The archaeological evaluation encountered a sequence of deposits that attested to the presence of Roman occupation. The Roman evidence consisted of a soil horizon, containing artefacts and building material and suggested that a Roman building may have existed in the vicinity. Medieval occupation was characterised by the presence of a buried soil in the southern portion of the trench, into which a stone-lined shaft was cut. Post-medieval deposits consisted of pits and layers, one of which was interpreted as a cess pit. [Au(abr)] |
