Abstract: |
The assessment was undertaken in response to a condition upon planning permission for the residential development of the site. There was no evidence of earlier prehistoric occupation in the immediate vicinity of the site, suggesting a moderate potential for early prehistoric remains, perhaps a scatter of worked or burnt flint artefacts, but this would have been sealed within peat deposits at some depth. There was evidence for Romano-British activity and it seemed very likely that at least agricultural drainage systems of this period would have extended onto the site. A high potential was identified. There was a low potential for the Saxon and medieval periods. The site seemed to have been largely devoted to agricultural activity in the post-medieval period. [Au(adp)] |
