Abstract: |
A developer was granted planning permission for the demolition of the existing premises and the erection of a new two-storey office building at the site. A planning condition requiring that a programme of archaeological work be undertaken was attached. Three evaluation trenches were mechanically excavated and 26 features were recognised in total. Pottery of Mid- to Late-Saxon date was recovered from two of the features. The majority of the others contained Saxo-Norman and later medieval pottery. Features included pits, post-holes and ditches. After recording the three trenches were backfilled and compacted. [Au(adp)] |
