Abstract: |
The assessment identified that no archaeological sites or finds had been recorded in the immediate vicinity; the land use history of the wider surrounding area was summarised. A walkover inspection of the relevant lengths of the route identified six locations with archaeological potential. These comprised a platform containing an air shaft which probably related to 19th century mining; an ancient boundary formed by a stream bed and a field wall; a sough relating to post-medieval mining; a farm which could potentially have earlier phases; and the sites of two shelves in the valley side, which represented a topographical feature attractive to past settlement.
