Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken in advance of the construction of new flats. The watching brief revealed layers of natural gravel and sand overlain in places by undated former soil horizons. A single flint flake of prehistoric date was recovered, providing very limited evidence of human activity during this period. Much of the site had been truncated previously by basements associated with the former properties on the site, though the dearth of artefactual evidence suggested that historically the site had not been inhabited until the later Victorian period.
