Abstract: |
A desk top study of the proposed route of a road improvement scheme was undertaken. Palaeolithic handaxes, Neolithic and Bronze Age flint scatters and Roman pottery had been recorded in the area. The road passed through a wood which contained possible pillow mounds and was partly surrounded by a boundary bank. During a survey within the wood, a field boundary, a saw pit, a probable boundary ditch and three possible hollow ways were recorded. It was concluded that the road improvements would have only a low impact on the archaeology of the area, although prehistoric and medieval artefacts could be found during roadworks. [AIP] |
