Abstract: |
Evidence of significant prehistoric presence within both the proposed golf course and its immediate envrions was demonstrated. The identification of at least two and possibly as many as seven major Bronze Age funerary structures provided the area to the north of Newland bridge with one of the most dense accumulations of burial mounds of that date on the Culm Measures. The immediate vicinity of the burial mounds represented an area of extreme archaeological sensitivity and significant importance. It was recommended that the burial mounds remain undisturbed and that any further work would require substantial archaeological investigation. [Au(abr)] |
