Abstract: |
The proposed development lay to the south of the outer ward of Wark castle. The evaluation indicated that the area was on the lower part of the south-facing slope of a natural hill, possibly accentuated to form the defences of the outer ward. A deposit of soil was identified across the area to a depth in excess of 1.7m, from which a small quantity of pottery and animal bone was recovered. This soil was likely to represent hillwash or the result of landscaping works. No archaeological remains associated with settlement were present. [Au(adp)] |
