Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment was undertaken of the site prior to its proposed redevelopment. Across most of the site the redevelopment would have little impact since most of the archaeological material had been removed by the existing basements and it was not proposed to lower the present slab. However, in the north-west corner of the site a block of possible surviving archaeological deposits between the pile wall and the standing building to the north would be completely removed by the extension of the new basement slab. The report concluded by suggesting that further archaeological evaluation work may be necessary to determine the nature and depth of any such deposits and to allow the formulation of an appropriate archaeological strategy for the redevelopment. The evaluation could take place at the same time as geotechnical investigations. [Au(adp)] |
