Abstract: |
A watching brief was undertaken duuring topsoil stripping and foundation trenching on a site which lay c. 120 metres north of the village church. A few residual pieces of medieval pottery were found which were thought to represent the area's use as a garden in the medieval period. A document from the Winchester College archives c.1300 located the development site as a garden to the north of a messuage once occupied by 'Milo'. the evidence suggested that the village of East Worldham once extended north of the church. By the early 19th century, the area was abandoned, and only subsequently contained houses in the last 100 years. The only feature observed was a probable medieval boundary ditch. [Au(abr)] |
