Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out in connection with groundworks for the erection of an office block. It was expected to find traces of the water system, originally built by the Franciscan Friars, that brought water from the Conduit Head near Hill Lane to the town by way of the Conduit house in Commercial Road. A length of lead piping had been found in the northeast corner of the site. It is possible that this was associated with the medieval water system. [Au abr] |
