Abstract: |
A field evaluation was carried out and consisted of five trenches in the rear garden of Blenheim Cottage. A sequence of three stratified layers were revealed during the investigation, consisting of natural sand overlain by a thick undated 'ploughsoil' layer representing the earliest evidence of human activity. This was in turn sealed by a thick deposit of modern topsoil. Although the natural substrate was exposed throughout the excavation, no archaeological deposits were observed in any of the trenches, other than an 18th/19th century pit. There was an absence of residual finds. [Au(abr)] |
