Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during the construction of a private dwelling and garage in response to a condition upon planning permission. The development sitte lay to the east of Haconby on the fen edge. The area was rich in archaeological remains dating from the prehistoric period. North-east of the site was the remains of Bronze Age barrows. The medieval was best represented by the extant remains of St. Andrew's church, dating from the 13th century, and on the southern side of Chapel Street were earthworks representing 16th and 17th entury formal gardens. Deposits encountered during the watching brief comprised topsoil and subsoil. No artefactual material was retrieved or observed during the investigation. [Au] |
