Abstract: |
The assessment concluded that the archaeological potential of the site was found to be mainly concentrated in two categories; alluvial deposits relating to the prehistoric period and remains of the post-medieval Red House Tavern that once stood upon the site. The geotechnical works already carried out on the site showed that there had not been extensive modern truncation and that archaeological deposits may be present upon the site at a shallow depth. The proposed redevelopment consisted of new buildings with multi-storey car parks to be constructed upon a dense grid of piles and thus these piling works would damage any archaeological deposits remaining on the site.
