Abstract: |
The assessment was undertaken to assess the archaeological potential of the line of a new trunk sewer. One Scheduled Ancient Monument was identified adjacent to the route at Whitecliff Furnace (SMR/County Monument 407). There was evidence for Iron Age and Romano-British activity within the vicinity. Some agricultural features from the medieval period may have survived along the route but these were of limited significance. The route appeared to pass through a post-medieval industrial landscape, which was constantly developed through the period. A high potential was identified in the areas where the 1608 map suggested remains existed and a moderate potential in other areas. [Au(adp)] |
