Abstract: |
When trenches were dug in this area, just within the precinct of the 12th century monastery of St Guthlac, in February 1993, the City of Hereford Archaeology Unit were alerted and arrangements were made with British Gas plc to create a system that provided prior notification of such excavations in future. The trenches in Union Walk were examined but were all in ground that had been recently disturbed and no significant archaeological remains were observed. (However, it should be noted that within some 5m of the trenches, important archaeological levels had been examined during archaeological work in 1987.)[AIP] |
