Abstract: |
<summary>The site of the proposed development lay within the area of the medieval settlement of Flecknoe, which was larger than the present village. Parts of the remains of the medieval settlement are visible as upstanding earthworks in adjacent fields. It was thought likely that significant archaeological deposits of the Medieval period had survived within the area of the site. Three 10m x 1.5m trenches were excavated in appropriate locations. Trenches 1 and 2 showed that there were few, if any, significant archaeological deposits existing in the area of the proposed dwelling or garden. However, a cobbled surface revealed in Trench 3 appeared to be late medieval in date and may have been related to the medieval village. In light of this, the survival of similar deposits in the lower lying part of the site (the area proposed for the driveway of the dwelling) was considered possible. {italon}Au(adp){italoff} {italon}SMR Primary Record Numbers:{italoff} WA6406 |
