Abstract: |
A desk-top assessment of a proposed development site where peat deposits had been observed was undertaken. Palaeolithic animal bones, flint tools and evidence of neolithic activity had been recorded in the surrounding area. Part of a bronze age timber trackway had been excavated nearby, and Roman artefacts had been found. An 11th century canal may have passed through the vicinity. Docks were constructed in the area in the 18th-19th centuries; the site itself had been partially developed by 1800. It was concluded that further archaeological work would be necessary. [AIP] |
