Abstract: |
Six test-pits were excavated to determine the presence of archaeological remains. Sections of the Old Gunwharf's quay wall and part of the Mill Redoubt wall were recorded, as well as a large stone and brick culvert. It was thought likely that this culvert acted as a sluice or overflow to the millpond and the tidal mill. The concrete foundations of the Commanding Ordnance Officer's quarters were observed, as well as part of the original Armoury building of Old Gunwharf which was demolished in the early 20th century.
