Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the excavation of a trench for a water main within the site of Scheduled Ancient Monument BK 79, which covered the area of Edward the Confessor's Palace, Kingsbury, Old Windsor and associated monuments. A number of cropmarks lay in the immediate vicinity of the pipeline. These represented enclosures, pits and part of a field system, all of unknown date. During the watching brief, two ditches were encountered which corresponded to recorded cropmarks, and which appeared to form the east and west sides of a rectangular enclosure. Undated struck flints were recovered, including two from one of the ditches. [Au(abr)] |
