Abstract: |
An archaeological assessment was undertaken ahead of the extension of a quarry spoil heap. The features recorded seemed to represent the remains of a post-medieval field system. Although only the presence of above ground sites was confirmed by the assessment, comparisons with archaeological landscapes, in similar topographic contexts demonstrated the archaeological potential for sub-surface survival in the area. None of the sites threatened were of sufficient significance to warrant specific further investigation. However, because of the archaeological potential of the site, it was recommended that a limited programme of trenching be undertaken to establish the presence or absence of any sub-surface archaeological remains.
