Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken in advance of the proposed construction of four new houses with integral garages and associated services. A desk-based assessment revealed that an Augustinian priory was situated close to the site and that following the dissolution of the priory, the area probably remained largely open ground until the late 19th century. Seven archaeological test pits were excavated across the site. The test pits showed that the site contained an extensive spread of modern building rubble, overlying the natural sand and gravel strata. No archaeological remains were found during the fieldwork.
